For the images, u need to use photoshop, not illustrator...
Illustrator is for Vector Graphic which mean drawing
Photoshop is for editing, mean edit color, brightness, contrast etc...

it is depend on what kind of color editing u want actually...i think
illustrator is more on vector-based but still...u can edit some simple color tone edit in there...maybe change the color mode...but nothing much on the brightness contrast, or any other things...^^||
to do more specific color editting maybe u should try adobe photoshop..^^
