Wow, so you're interested in Linux! Nice! I happened to use Linux 3 years back, but I wasn't using it comprehensively. It was the only OS we could use in my high school back then. That's why everyone was trying it at school.

Now, I just heard a bit about Linux, never really use it personally. But, I wanted to give it a try. It must be interesting, especially Ubuntu. They say it's a real superb OS. Beautiful, they say. Ubuntu has more than one desktop, doesn't it?

Well, I may want to give it a try sometime, when assignments are not bugging me anymore.

Yea..but u gotta know a little bit of commandline (cmd)...this Linux uses it and that is why it's not easily infected by viruses..but don't worry it's clever enough to guide you...user-friendly

I think there are not many companies or universities using Linux OS is because of its open-source development. We know that open-source project has no quality standard, unlike what we have in proprietary OS, such as Windows. The rumor of the greatness of Linux OS (mainly Ubuntu) is just delivered from mouth to mouth, very subjective opinion. Though, we know that many people have been evaluating Ubuntu for its good quality (this is a special case). Many people are using Ubuntu are usually just for the purpose of learning or trying something new.

Remember that the quality of these open-source softwares are not standardly proven. There might be a lot of bugs which will always be fixed by the community themselves, though (coz it's an open-source project, everyone can modify).

Another thing about virus, what I know that Linux is not so vulnerable to virus, because most of those virus producers are mainly racing to hack the Windows system, which is used by the majority of the world's users. Therefore, there are not many virus attacks against Linux OS.

Another advantage of Linux is its installation has been buckled up with loads of useful softwares. There is no need for you to look for softwares, such as office application, media player, pdf reader, etc.... because they are already there in the package and all of them are free!

The answer comes to you eventually... ^^ It's relative and subjective. I don't really know about it, though. Each of them has their own advantages and disadvantages. You might like Windows because you are used to use it since the first time you know computer...
